The Preventioneers, published by Johns Hopkins University Press, tells the dramatic stories of individuals who recognized danger early, challenged accepted wisdom, and helped prevent disease, injury, and disaster.
Starting at 6:30 PM, Dr. Davis will host a Q&A in the cafe of Barnes & Noble where he will talk about his book and take audience questions. A book signing will follow afterward. Please call the store if you have any questions.

Barry R. Davis, MD, PhD, will examine why societies delay prevention even when evidence is clear and how discoveries become policy and practice.
Drawing from The Preventioneers and landmark prevention trials, the talk will explore stories spanning Benjamin Franklin, automobile safety, hypertension, and climate change.

Barry R. Davis, MD, PhD, joined the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health for a celebration honoring graduating Occupational and Environmental Medicine residents Lukas Richards and Jacques Altawil.
Davis signed copies of The Preventioneers: Diseases, Disasters, and the Discoveries That Changed Our World as graduation gifts for the two residents. The gathering reflected a central theme of the book and of occupational and environmental medicine: recognizing hazards early, protecting workers and communities, and acting before preventable harm occurs.

Barry R. Davis celebrated 25 years as a member of Fort Bend Fit with a member-appreciation signing of The Preventioneers. He spoke about the connections among exercise, nutrition, friendship, community, and prevention, and personalized copies for fellow runners and walkers.

During a two-hour appearance at Barnes & Noble Sugar Land, I met readers, signed copies of The Preventioneers, and discussed the stories and ideas behind the book.
Many visitors were especially interested in Benjamin Franklin and the surprising origin of the phrase “an ounce of prevention.” Others commented on the book’s endorsements and on its dramatic stories of people who recognized danger, challenged accepted wisdom, and changed the world.
Barnes & Noble Sugar Land invited me to return for another event.
